C & P EXAM
The VA claim exam, also called a C&P exam, is different from a regular medical appointment because the examiner won’t prescribe any medicine or treat you for your disability. This exam occurs only if you file a compensation or pension claim. It is a part of the claim review process and helps VA determine if your disability is service connected, the level of your disability, or if your condition should receive an increased rating due to it worsening.

SEPARATION HEALTH ASSESSMENT
VA conducts the SHA for Service members applying for disability compensation through the Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) or the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) programs. The SHA results are used as part of a VA disability compensation determination and are also provided to DoD for military separation purposes.

Periodic Health Assessment
The Periodic Health Assessment is a screening tool used by the armed forces to evaluate the individual medical readiness of their service members. It can be conducted alone or can be combined with other individual medical readiness needs (e.g., dental exam and immunizations). This exam is performed annually.

Post-Deployment Health Reassessment
The Post-Deployment Health Reassessment is a health screen designed to protect and evaluate the health of those returning from deployment. This is completed 90 to 180 days after returning from deployment.
